Meet the UMSL Alumni Association president
The University of Missouri–St. Louis’ Alumni Association is turning a new leaf with its new president Michael J. Finkes, BS chemistry 1973 and MS chemistry 1978. Finkes, a seasoned member of the association, assumed his position July 1. He recently retired from Monsanto, where he worked for more than 30 years, and is dedicating his time and energy to the university and community that helped him build a foundation for his successful career.

2 MFA alumni to read at Gallery 210
Alumni Kelli Allen, BA English 2008 and MFA 2011 (with an emphasis in poetry), and Michael Nye, MFA 2006 (with an emphasis in fiction), will make their return to the University of Missouri—St. Louis campus. UMSL’s new poet laureate for the people
Poetry is for everyone, according to Jennifer Goldring, a student pursuing an MFA in creative writing and the 2013 poet laureate for the University of Missouri–St. Louis. She wants to unveil the contemporary poetry scene to the general public and help debunk the stereotype of poetry as inaccessible and archaic.
Two book authors, one reading
The Graduate Writers Association at the University of Missouri–St. Louis is hosting the literary version of a double feature. Katherine Riegel and Ira Sukrungruang will provide the St. Louis literary community with back-to-back readings of poetry and creative nonfiction. The double reading is the big event for GWA’s Reading Series this spring.
UMSL students take action to promote tobacco-free campus
The University of Missouri–St. Louis fired up the second week of its UMSL Seriously Tobacco-Free campaign on Monday, and administrators weren’t the only ones taking the university’s tobacco-free policy seriously. Volunteer students handed out fliers with tobacco facts, cessation resource information and copies of the university policy during high traffic hours in the Quadrangle on North Campus.

Author of poetry collection ‘Crush’ to read at Hinge Gallery
Writers and poets of St. Louis have reason to be excited. Trending poet Richard Siken will be on their literary scene for a reading hosted by the Graduate Writer’s Association at the University of Missouri–St. Louis.
