The College of Business Administration and School of Professional & Continuing Studies at the University of Missouri–St. Louis announced a new program that offers a Certificate in Digital Media Marketing. Courses will begin in June with a curriculum that offers marketers a chance to amplify their skills in the digital world, including social media, web analytics, media buying, mobile marketing and more. This fall, the university will be adding social media marketing to its graduate level curriculum.

The Center for the Humanities at the University of Missouri–St. Louis will host a literary reading and discussion by novelist Martha McPhee and book critic Heller McAlpin at 10 a.m. on April 5 at UMSL’s J.C. The Division of Continuing Education at the University of Missouri–St. Louis has a new name: School of Professional & Continuing Studies. “It was determined that the ‘School of Professional & Continuing Studies’ would more accurately reflect the nature of our work, the constituents with whom we work, and better align us with our peers and our related professional organizations,” said Wm. Thomas Walker, dean of PCS.

Storyteller to share troubling tale of American Indian boarding schools

Storyteller Dovie Thomason, a Lakota and Kiowa Apache, will explore a tragic chapter in U.S. history at 5:30 p.m. May 3 in 402 J.C. Penney Building/Conference Center at the University of Missouri–St. Louis. The free event, “The Spirit Survives,” will focus on the forcible use of American Indian boarding schools. Mathematicians from throughout the region will gather April 12-14 at the University of Missouri–St. Louis for a pair of major math events. The Deparment of Mathematics and Computer Science at UMSL will host the spring meeting of the Missouri Section of the Mathematical Association of America on April 13 and 14. MAA Vice President Francis Su and David Wright, chairman of the Department of Mathematics at Washington University in St. Louis, will be the keynote speakers at the meeting.

Legendary dancer’s technique to come alive at UMSL

Legendary dancer Katherine Dunham was an innovator in combining individualistic dance movements of Caribbean and African cultures with European-style ballet. Her intense research of primitive rhythms of various cultures explored the foundation of movement, its form and function. Dance instructor Theo Jamison will bring her dance method to the University of Missouri–St. Louis with the Katherine Dunham Dance course.
