GLVC honors 2 athletes for week of excellence
Senior Jeremy Butler struck out 14 batters across 16 innings of pitching to help the University of Missouri–St. Louis baseball team secure two wins last week. And during the same week sophomore Louisa Werner went undefeated in eight singles and doubles matches for the UMSL women’s tennis team.
Men’s basketball player, head coach earn All-Midwest honors
Senior guard Troy Long of the University of Missouri–St. Louis men’s basketball team and head coach Steve Tappmeyer have been honored by the National Association of Basketball Coaches. Long earned Second Team All-Midwest Region honors, while Tappmeyer was recognized as Midwest District Co-Coach of the Year.

Men’s golf plays 100 holes in fundraising effort
The UMSL men’s golf team held its Golf Marathon last Monday at the Family Golf Center. Each team member and coach played 100 holes in an effort to raise money for the program. A pair of UMSL Tritons players also recorded hole-in-ones during the event, including freshman Cullen Pearce on his third hole of the day and junior Chase Smith on his seventh hole of the day.
GLVC honors 4 men’s basketball players, head coach
Senior guard Troy Long of the University of Missouri–St. Louis men’s basketball team has been named to the Great Lakes Valley Conference First Team, while junior guard Joshua McCoy and junior forward Charlie Woods were selected to the league’s second team. Additionally, senior guard Justin Hightower was tabbed to the All-Defensive Team, while head coach Steve Tappmeyer took home co-GLVC Coach of the Year Honors.

Student Life offering UMSL Tritons road trip to Springfield
The Office of Student Life at the University of Missouri–St. Louis is offering students, faculty and staff the opportunity to see the UMSL Tritons men’s basketball team in quarterfinal round action of the 2012 SCHEELS Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Basketball Championship Friday (March 2) in Springfield, Ill.

GLVC coaches pick softball team to finish first in 2012
In 2011, the University of Missouri–St. Louis softball team captured a Great Lakes Valley Conference crown with a 20-5 league record. The GLVC head coaches recently predicted an encore performance for UMSL in 2012. The league’s 16 head coaches picked UMSL Tritons to win the GLVC West Division this season.
